Can You Hear Me Now?

Twenty years ago we were in the 80’s. Before I was born, both my parent were still young adults and the world was nothing like it is today. Among the drastic changes in the way we dress, the music we listen to, the way we talk etc., from the 80’s to now we have changed radically in how we communicate.

From big blocky 1hr battery life phones, to pagers, to two-ways, to smaller more convenient ones that really couldn’t do much, to what we have now. It is amazing that what once was the size of a small book and didn’t really do much, now can be as small as the palm of your hand and do pretty much everything a full blown computer can. With this advance in the way we can communicate there has been a change in the way we communicate. What I mean by this is back in the day there weren’t very many ways to keep in touch, other than by phone call, letter or in person. Yeah online was an option but it wasn’t as advanced as it is today. Now we are literally a click away from anyone in the world. If I want to talk to my friend on the other side of the world, all I need to do is press and hold C on my cell-phone. Another thing we can do in 2010 that we couldn’t do in 1980 is text! I text so much that it has become the main source of how commune with basically everyone in my life. I can count the times I am actually on the phone in one month, but when it comes to texting I can literally send dozens of messages a day. Another form of communication that is rampantly growing are sites known as social networks, recently most popular being Facebook and Twitter. I think if Facebook keeps going like it’s going, in a few years more than half the population will be “connected”. No where else in the history of the world has the entire human population been so close to almost all being together like that.

Prompt 14

Better Learning

I have had all sorts of teachers throughout my academic career. Loud ones beyond necessity, quite ones beyond understanding, and just plain weird ones; all theses teacher taught differently, while some methods worked miraculously others failed terribly. As teachers are humans just like the rest of us I do not expect all of them to be absolutely great at what they do, but I do believe certain methods and techniques can definitely help aid them towards that title.

The first method I suggest is one that is simply stated, but as I have experienced personally, one of the most difficult things you can ask a person to do. Control your temper! I understand kids can get under a teachers skin, but the quickest way for your class to lose all respect for you as a teacher is to blow your top. Once a teacher begins yelling and carrying on we students are like “whoa this guy is out of it.” So if you want us to continue to respect you as a teacher, please learn to keep it professional. Besides not only does blowing up on us make us lose respect, but we also feel disrespected. It’s like “hold on the only person who can yell at me like that is my momma and that’s just because she gave me birth, so who are you to get all high and mighty on me?!?” SO yeah this is probably the biggest modus operandi to keep in mind and by far probably the absolute hardest.

Second technique I would like to put out there would be a slightly easier and not a important as the first, but still pretty important. This technique is also specially directed towards high school teachers in particular; please remember dear teachers that your class is not the only, nor is it the most important class on our insanely busy schedules. I understand the whole “preparing us for college” thing but less face it, regardless we are still in high school and still need the benefits of an understandable teacher. I am not suggesting you don’t give any homework, all I am saying is that a reasonable amount would be greatly appreciated.

In closing, all teachers are different hence they all have different styles of teaching, but I do believe certain methods should be considered by all teachers.

Life As We Know It

I don’t know about you, but I know that I can’t function without the help of modern day conveniences. From simple things like my indoor bathroom, equipped with a hot water shower, flushable toilet, and face basin, too much more elaborate conveniences like my iPod Touch. I can honestly say without these amenities I would be hopelessly lost.

How does an average person’s day go? Usually you wake up to the buzzing of an alarm clock, go get ready in your indoor bathroom, fix breakfast using microwaves, ovens, toasters, and or electric stoves. Doing all this with lights turned on of course, and depending on the severity of the weather, a heater or air conditioner may also be on. If you’re like my Granny, a cup of coffee is an absolute must and for that you would use your handy coffee maker. After all that is said and done you are on your way to where ever you need to be, while making your journey you are most likely listening to some sort
